Composition Journals and the Politics of Knowledge--Making: A Conversation with Journal Editors

Fredric G. Gale

From the article: "We must recognize--and I suppose most of us do--that a scholarly literacy exists which, like other literacies, empowers some as it silences others. The existence of an inevitable scholarly literacy and various subliteracies is not wrong per se and does not call for any sort of a reflex popularization of scholarship that would eliminate all differences between academic writers, perhaps turning access to journals into a lottery. . . . Whether the way that those who are admitted and those who are excluded is fair is another question, one that the respondents attempted to answer."
