| JAC provides a forum for
scholars interested in theoretical approaches to the interdisciplinary
study of rhetoric, writing, culture, and politics. We publish
four book-length issues a year, featuring articles, interviews,
essays, review essays, and reviews. The journal is peer-reviewed
and sponsors four annual awards for outstanding
scholarship. JAC receives generous financial
support from Illinois State University.
Twenty-six years ago when the journal was founded, JAC
was an acronym for the "Journal of Advanced Composition,"
and it featured the best theoretical scholarship on a variety
of topics related to “advanced writing” (all writing
above the first-year level). The scope of what the journal publishes
has expanded over the years as the interdisciplinary field of
rhetoric and writing studies has grown and matured. Today JAC
is a forum for interdisciplinary inquiry into rhetoric, writing,
culture, and politics, and the journal is now simply known as
"J-A-C." See the JAC History
page for more information about the journal's past.
