1979
- Tim D. P. Lally is asked to to edit a newsletter
for the newly formed Association of Teachers of Advanced Composition
(ATAC). Instead, he founds JAC as the Journal
of Advanced Composition and publishes the first volume in 1980.
Lally edits volumes 1-6 with support from the University of South
Alabama. See Lally's "Editor's
Note" that appears in JAC issues
4, 5, and 6 for a review of his tenure as editor.
1986
- Gary A. Olson takes over as JAC
Editor.
1990
- Although JAC featured a
single response essay in volume 1, JAC re-inaugurates
its reader-response feature in JAC 10.1 with
essays by Kenneth Bruffee, John Schilb, and David Foster. The essays
are in response to the interview with Richard Rorty in JAC
9.1 and an article by Carol Berkenkotter in JAC
9.1.
1994
- Evelyn Ashton-Jones joins Gary A. Olson as JAC
Co-Editor.
1995
- Thomas Kent takes over as JAC
Editor.
1996
- Sid Dobrin joins Thomas Kent as JAC
Co-Editor.
2000
- Lynn Worsham takes over as JAC
Editor with support from the University of South Florida. JAC
covers start using photo-quality designs.
- JAC goes online. Many articles
offered in full-text versions. Online-only content is offered as well,
such as the "Reviews
Re-viewed" feature in which book authors respond to reviews
of their books published in JAC.
- JAC receives the Phoenix
Award for Significant Editorial Achievement from the Council of Editors
of Learned Journals
2004
- JAC's office and staff
move to Illinois State University.
2007
- JAC web site redesigned.
Process to convert archives to PDF format begins.
